The Importance of Shopping Local

2 Oct 2020 | BLOG

In the current climate and the global pandemic, it has never been more important to consciously think about how and where we are spending our money. Small businesses are so important to our local community and every penny counts. The government has done so much to try and protect these small businesses, but they can only do so much and as the furlough scheme comes to an end we all have a responsibility to consider which businesses receive our custom and it can impact our communities for years to come.

So, the big message from us is to ‘Shop Local’ – Every penny that you can spend in our local community supports a family within it, they then in return can spend within our community. If we do not utilise these businesses now, then they may not be here in the future.

This principle though does not only apply to retail shops, but to all businesses and this can often be overlooked. For many people considering whether to instruct a professional, they focus entirely on price and as with big supermarkets and retailers, it is very difficult to compete with their fees. However, please consider that in order to offer the cheaper fees they need bulk quantity work and that the quality of the work is not their priority. They also need to employ a large number of staff and cannot ensure that they have the required skills and expertise to deal with your legal matter. The phrase ‘buy cheap buy twice’ springs to mind, although in no way do we deem the costs of legal work ‘cheap’. We handle matters on a daily basis that are being delayed or even in some cases aborted due to poor quality legal firms whose fees are highly attractive to cost-conscious clients.

With conveyancing, particularly at this time when there is a clear deadline to the stamp duty incentive being offered to the Government, and how much that is saving you, consider whether you want to risk the possible delays or a worst-case of your transaction falling through by a bad choice at the outset in choosing your legal advisor.

By choosing a small local law firm, not only are you supporting people who live and work in your community, but you are ensuring quality service with people who really value you as a client and appreciate your support during this difficult time. Also, we have seen countless times that saving £50 on fees has cost some people dearly either in conveyancing matters, poor drafting on important documents such as Wills and Powers of Attorney and inaccurate advice.
